What is Health Coaching?
Health coaching is the use of skillful, evidence-based, client-led conversation to answer the following questions:
What do you want?
Why do you want it?
How will you get there?
What's special about health coaching?
Anyone can give or take advice. Executing on advice is an entirely different story. Health coaching is the missing link.
A certified health coach is trained in asking the right questions at the right time to evoke a client's own knowledge of how they will accomplish their desired goals- a.k.a. "evoke and stoke, not sell and tell".
A coach ensures goals align with one's unique strengths and values, and are SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound).
Why self-care?
Almost any goal could fall under "health-related" since, one could argue, the mere act of achieving (or not achieving) any goal effects how you feel, and how you feel effects your health.
Self-care narrows the category to the specific, daily habits we choose to engage in to intentionally advance our health (see below).
Information and advice on these habits has become ubiquitous- which can be a double-edged sword. We're constantly reminded of what to do, but not how we personally can get it done.
